How Dealer Pay Works
Submission, install, activation, chargeback: the four events that decide whether a fiber sale pays, and why "paid weekly" and "paid on activation" are not the same promise.
The four events
| Event | What happens | Does anyone get paid? |
|---|---|---|
| Submission | The rep signs the customer up at the door and the order is entered with the carrier. | No. A submission is a promise, not a sale. |
| Install | The carrier’s technician completes the install at the home. | This is the event most master dealers pay on. Velocity One pays on install confirmation. |
| Activation | The account is live and billing starts. | Some carriers pay the master dealer here rather than at install. |
| Chargeback | The customer cancels inside the chargeback window. | The payment is reversed. Everyone in the chain gives it back. |
Why the gap between submission and install is everything
A door-to-door sale typically installs one to three weeks after submission. During that gap the customer can change their mind, miss the appointment, or get a call from their current provider. The share of submissions that become installs is the install rate, and it is the single biggest lever in a dealer’s income. A crew submitting 100 sales a week at a 60% install rate earns less than a crew submitting 80 at 85%.
This is why Velocity One runs a follow-up system on every scheduled install between the sale and install day. We do not publish how it works, but it is the first thing we walk dealers through on the call.
“Paid weekly” vs. “paid when the carrier pays”
Many master dealers pay dealers only after the carrier pays them, which can be four to eight weeks after install. Velocity One pays dealers weekly on confirmed installs, regardless of the carrier’s cycle. That difference is cash flow, and cash flow is what keeps reps on a 100% commission team.
