Sub-Dealer Contract Checklist
Twelve things a sub-dealer agreement must spell out before you sign under any fiber master dealer.
Most sub-dealer agreements are short, and the problems come from what they leave out. Before you sign under any master dealer, get a written answer to each of these.
Money
- Rate per installed sale. A dollar figure, not a range. Does it change by plan tier or market?
- Pay schedule. Weekly, biweekly, or monthly? Triggered by install confirmation or by the carrier paying the master dealer?
- Definition of “installed.” Technician complete? Account active? First bill paid? Each one moves your payday.
- Chargeback window and reasons. How many days after install can a sale be clawed back, and for what? Open-ended windows are a red flag.
- Reporting access. Can you see submissions, installs, and amounts owed yourself, in real time?
- Reconciliation. Who checks your submissions against the carrier’s records, and what happens when a sale is missing on the carrier’s side?
Territory and independence
- Territory. Written assignment, and a promise the master dealer’s own crew will not work it.
- Branding. Can you keep your company name and identity?
- Non-solicitation. Can the master dealer recruit your reps? It should say no.
- Exit terms. How much notice, and are installed sales still paid after exit?
Support
- Systems. What do you get on day one: rep app, CRM, training platform, recruiting funnel, customer follow-up?
- Escalation. Who do you call when a pay cycle is wrong, and how fast do they answer?
